Sightseeing in Seattle
From Blaine we headed south to Seattle to see the sights it offers. It was good to be on the road in our rental Rogue with the music on and the windows down. Vi assumed her Co-Pilot, map-clutching position as I, as Pilot, navigated the construction-filled roads that surround all big cities!
We started out going down to Pike Place Market. This large marketplace is alive with any and all types of market goodies - from every kind of fruits and veggies to magnificent flowers to jewelry (see Vi's beautiful purchase below). The King Crab legs were bigger in Ketchikan btw!
We spent the better part of the day at the market and walking along the waterfront. Walked past the very first Starbucks - the line was long there, what?! We are not fans of the brew, but it was still great to witness the origin of the phenomenon that is Starbucks.
We had a bite to eat at Elliott’s on the
water where we sampled some various kinds of oysters including the famous Hama Hama oysters. They were all delicious, but nothing as fresh as the ones we had in Blaine (1 hour out of the water!) LeRoy also had his beer of the day,
“Seattle Lager”, and then we made our way out to the Space Needle. We passed on the $30 dollar parking fee and
the $50.00 elevator ride to the top and just took some pictures instead. LeRoy still thinks it's a spaceship!
This was our first time to Seattle, and as the 18th largest city in America, it was a bit overwhelming. It was good to be a part of it, though, if only for a day, but we are really looking forward to visiting our friend, Eloise, from the 2024 World Cruise tomorrow. Farewell, Seattle.
